Top Scholarships for students in India  

1. INSPIRE Scholarship

Scholarship initiated by the government of India by the Department of Science and Technology. Students who rank in the top 1% of their 12th std boards, and the top 10,000 ranks in JEE and NEET opting for basic and natural sciences are eligible for this scholarship.

Scholarship amount: 80,000 INR, per student, each year

2. Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY)

Another initiative by the Department of Science and Technology is for students of 11th to 1st-year graduation (science stream). Selection is based on an aptitude test conducted by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). And the renewal depends on a student maintaining a minimum of 60% score 

Scholarship amount: for Bsc. 5000 per year, each student (contingency amount 20000), for MSc. 7000 per year, each student (contingency amount 28,000). 

3. HDFC Educational Crisis Scholarship Support

This scholarship for students is by the HDFC Bank to help students in times of crisis such as the death of a parent, loss of job of the earning parent, life-threatening illness, etc.

Students of 6th to 12th std, with a family income of less than 3lakhs per annum, or someone in a financial crisis for the past 2 years are eligible for the same.

Scholarship amount: INR 10,000 or the tuition fee (whichever is lesser) for school students, and INR 25,000 or tuition fee for college students.

4. Foundation for Academic Excellence and Access (FAEA)

This scholarship for students in India is an initiative of Bharat Heavy Electronics Ltd (BHEL). It is designed especially for the economically-weaker section of the SC/ST/BPL category who have passed the 12th grade. 

Scholarship amount: it covers the total cost of the study of 50 students every year.  

5. AICTE Pragati Scholarship for Girls

This is an initiative to support young women to continue their higher education. They provide scholarships to a total of 4,000 girl students every year, that come from economically weaker backgrounds 

Scholarship amount: Tuition fee of INR 30,000, and INR 2,000 per month for 10 months.  

6. Central Sector Scholarship Scheme (CSSS)

Students who have scored 80 percentile or above in 12th grade and have a family income of less than 8lakh per annum are eligible for this scholarship. Thus, meritorious students of the weaker sections can apply for this scholarship as the ministry of Education gives out 82 thousand new scholarships under this scheme every year. And the scholarship is between 10-20 thousand INR annually.
